I had this conversation with my five children and husband this week and we concluded that a garden grows, ornamental or edible, laborous or effortless, small or large scale, for income or not. A farm does all that as well as includes animals–animals that provide a food source, be it their own flesh, their milk, eggs, etc. They may provide labor such as plowing or keeping fields from becoming overgrown. They may provide valuable fertilizer or their hide or hair may be used to produce other products. For the most part, more than a house pet.
We came to the conclusion a garden does not have “working” animals, a farm does and they both annually grow something on the land.
